First, you want to make sure that you are never too harsh with your puppy. There are many people that think the only way that they will be able to train their puppy is through punishing a puppy severely when he or she makes a mistake.
As you are taking the time to train your puppy you want to understand how he or she is going to react. If you are severe with your puppy the dog will only become harder to train in the future because he or she will be scared of you.
When a dog is scared of you, you will notice that he or she cowers away from you rather than being excited to learn from you. As you take the time to love and punish your dog you will be able to create a dog that is loyal and obedient.
Second, you have to understand what your dog is capable of. There are a lot of different types of dogs that will be hard to train simply because they are not as intelligent or as quick to learn as other breeds of dogs.
When you are choosing your dog you have to make sure that you find a dog that is going to be capable of learning the tricks that you would have him or her learn. There are many different types of tricks that most dogs are capable of.
If your dog is going to have to learn how to sit, speak or any other basic command you will be able to find that the majority of breeds can do this. When you need a dog to be able to learn more elaborate behaviors you want to make sure you find the proper breed.
Shopping for a dog can be a complicated process. Meeting with a professional and explaining what you are expecting from your puppy to the professional will help you find the best dog for you and for your needs.
When you are researching dogs you also want to look up the medical needs that the dog will probably have. There are many different dogs that will have medical needs that will be hard for many to afford and to take care of promptly.
If your dog starts to have a lot of medical problems and you are not able to give the dog the type of treatment that the dog needs it can be very stressful. The more that you understand about the dog beforehand the easier it will be to prepare yourself.
Third, you want to make sure that you are consistent with your dog. If you are going to institute a rule in your home for the dog you want to make sure that you do not allow the dog to break the rules during certain times.
The dog needs to understand how you are going to react to all of his or her actions. You want him or her to completely understand what behavior is expected of him or her and exactly what he or she needs to do to please you.
Fourth, as soon as you get the dog you should start participating in positive reinforcement. The more positive reinforcement that the dog is able to get the easier it will be for the dog to recognize the type of behavior he or she should be participating in.
There are many different ways that you can participate in positive reinforcements. The most common method of positive reinforcement is to give the dog his or her favorite treat when they do something they are supposed to do.
This can be instituted in many different ways. When your dog starts to go to the bathroom outside you want to make sure that you are taking the time to give your dog a treat and make sure that the dog knows that this is where you want him or her to be going to the bathroom.
If you start training your dog from an early age you will have a much better grasp on your dog's behaviors. Take the time to learn how you are going to treat your dog and train your dog properly before your dog develops habits that you will have to break.
